Best Robot Vacuums for Pet Hair in Australia
Pet hair is the hardest test a robot vacuum faces. Long hair wraps around a spinning brush, fine fur works its way deep into carpet, and the dander that comes with it is exactly what sets off allergies. Plenty of robovacs are sold as pet machines; far fewer are actually built for the job. Here is what separates the two, and the models sold in Australia that genuinely tick the boxes.
What actually matters for pet hair
Four things do the heavy lifting. The rest is marketing.
An anti-tangle main brush. A traditional bristle roller grabs long hair and winds it into a tight band around the brush, and before long you are cutting it off with scissors. The fix is a rubber or dual-roller anti-tangle main brush that directs hair straight into the bin instead of letting it wrap. It makes the single biggest difference for a pet household. Most of the market has moved to it, but not all machines have, so it is worth confirming before you buy.
Strong suction. Fur works its way into carpet and rug pile, and it takes real airflow to pull it back out. Suction is measured in pascals (Pa), and for hair on carpet you want a machine towards the higher end of its price tier rather than an entry model.
Genuine HEPA filtration. A vacuum kicks up almost as much fine dust and dander as it collects, so if anyone in the house has allergies the filter matters as much as the brush. A true HEPA filter traps the fine particles that a basic filter lets straight back into the room.
A self-emptying dock. A pet household fills a small onboard bin quickly. A dock that empties the robot after each clean means you handle the hair every few weeks instead of every day, and you are not wearing a cloud of it every time you tip out the bin. A good dock is also a big part of our Autonomy Score, the 0-to-10 measure of how hands-off a machine is - handy if you want the lowest-maintenance option for a shedding pet.
How we picked these
We track every robot vacuum we track in Australia and check the pet-hair specs - the main-brush design and the filter type - against each manufacturer's own spec sheets, not the third-party listings that will call anything a HEPA filter. Every machine below has a verified anti-tangle main brush, a genuine HEPA filter and a self-emptying dock, plus a live price from at least one Australian retailer. They are ordered by owner-review score against price, and the lists rebuild themselves as prices move, so what you see is current, not a snapshot frozen at publication.

HEPA filters: check the maker's own wording
This one is worth knowing before you spend. A genuine HEPA filter has to meet a defined standard, but the word gets used loosely online. When we checked filter specs across the range, a lot of machines that carry HEPA in their web listings actually use an E11 or E12 filter - that is EPA grade, a step below true HEPA - with the HEPA label coming from third-party replacement-filter sellers rather than the maker. Some big-name flagships sit in that camp. It does not make them poor vacuums, but if allergies are the reason you are buying, check the filter is HEPA by the manufacturer's own wording. Every machine in the lists above clears that bar, because that is how we tag them.
Buy at the right price
Robot vacuums move on and off sale constantly, and the same model can swing hundreds of dollars inside a month. We track the price of every machine across Australian retailers and keep the full history, so you can tell whether today's price is a genuine deal or just a sticker.
